2018 Virtual/Actual Mago Pilgrimage to Korea

Mago Academy is pleased to announce 2018 Virtual/Actual Mago Pilgrimage to Korea! Consider taking 2018 Mago Pilgrimage to Korea, an online class, facilitated by Helen Hye-Sook Hwang, Ph.D. researcher and advocate of Magoism, as she journeys along the mytho-historical-cultural homeland of Magoism. Dr. Hwang has led guided pilgrims from the U.S., Canada, Australia, and Korea for the last four years. You are cordially invited to the virtual journey of 9 days.

Theme The Origin Story that saves all, the Nine Mago Creatrix and Mago Stronghold

Places to visit (not in travel sequences)

  • Magoist (indigenous faith) practices in Korean cultures and religions including the main hall of Daeung-jeon in Buddhist Temples
  • Mudang (Korean Shaman) Shrine
  • Mago Stronghold, Jiri Mountains (July 8th)
  • Peak of Nine Wells in Mt. Moon Rising (Wolchul-san), Yeongam (Spiritual Rock) County, South Jeolla Province (July 9th)
  • Or other cultural places

Method One may take this class as a group learning or an individualized retreat. Participants will be given daily readings and instructions with audio/visual data in advance. No assignment is required. A Mago Academy website space and email will be used for discussions and reflections. There will be one video meeting (1 to 1 and half hour), date and time TBA. Dr. Hwang will visit those places, interview people, and upload photos and videos during this period.


Daily Themes and Activities (Korea Time/US PST or EST, tentative)

Day 1 (July 3 or July 2): Introduction: What is Mago and Magoism? What is the Nine Mago Creatrix?

Day 2 (July 4 or July 3): Nine Numerology and the Magoist Cosmogony

Pilgrims are welcome to join Dr. Hwang who stays in Samyuk University, Taereung. Self-introduction and personal sharing about one’s dreams and visions including Mago Pilgrimage.

Day 3 (July 5 or July 4): Goma, the shaman ruler of Old Magoist East Asia/Korea

Pilgrims travel to Mago Stronghold (Mt. Jiri) in the evening of July 5. Stay overnight in Mago Stronghold.

Day 4 (July 6 or July 5): What is Mago Stronghold?

Meet Master Hanpul, representative of Mago Stronghold community. Hike to Mt. Triad with Hanpul. Stay overnight in Mago Stronghold.

Day 5 (July 7 or July 6): What is the Mandate of Return to Mago’s Origin?

Travel and hike to Peak of Nine Wells, Yeongam. Stay overnight in Yeongam or elsewhere.

Day 6 (July 8 or July 7): Danguk (3898-2333 BCE), the second magocratic confederacy of Old Magoism, and Nine Magos

Travel to sacred sites in Yeongam. Actual pilgrimage ends.

Day 7 (July 9 or July 8): Personal Reflections

Day 8 (July 10 or July 9): Video Meeting for an hour

Virtual Pilgrims join. Possibly 9 AM (Korea Time) through Google Hangouts. All participants will be invited via email.

Day 9 (July 11 or July 10): What is Magoist Soteriology? Group Discussion via email
